now I never claimed to be an authority in EET but. "a battery having ends connected with copper is by any definition (a dead short)" same as a length of wire. "works as a parallel load" and will get warm/hot depending on the amount of current allowed through it's resistance.
which will without doubt lessen the life of a battery though it will prevent spikes and could possibly be useful in some strange cases.
though the battery will drain even if the device it's in is on or off, some small digital circuits like cameras or mp3 players would like being paralleled with a short. I am sure the establishment would prefer you operate everything with a short, to keep you buying more batteries..
the digital devices i refer to use static voltage and not current pressure to do work.
in other words there is no motor or wire (analog device)inside, to drain away current as waste heat. instead they simply use a very small micro current to flip transistor switches.
I am surprised they make/sell them at all, if someone used them where a stacked battery configuration was used for higher voltage, they would at least one of them get hot and melt "like a fuse link",possibly making a fire..
the way digital equipment use a battery leave it having a current capacity but reduced voltage. ("like having a cup of hot water left over" )
this is the opposite with analog devices because current leads voltage meaning the voltage drops as the current capacity is spent. (like having a empty cup left over.)
so what the device or strip is doing is actually warming the battery with waste heat, so it maintains a steady output voltage during drop/use. but I doubt its anything nearly an advantage when looked at battery life..
it would be like leaving the heater blower in your car on while you try to charge the battery..
yet another way the corporation wants to plague dumb-ass's (who will buy), with more products to extort even more income from you.
(alkaline batteries for sale!)
p.s. please don't put these batteries in a charger with that thing still installed. the short will cause any wall wart charger to explode capacitors and maybe even damage the coils enough to cause a fire later.Statistics: Posted by iamdenteddisk — Tue Jun 09, 2015 6:35 pm
