Some interesting points for sure. A couple of things stand out though: Decent pixel app for *nix? Sure, it's called Pixel, and costs $32. It's far superior to that gimpy excuse for an editor (pun intended). Pixel is definately better than the GIMP when I tried the trial. However I could never use i...

The computing industry would have been much better off without Microsoft. {snip} If you don't like Microsoft, then don't use their products and stfu about it. I don't hate Microsoft, and I don't like them either - Windows 2000 is one of my favorite OSes since its quite stable and doesn't waste CPU ...

You mean Virtual Machine all way round...

I didn't know AMDs ran on x86. I assumed that because Unix distorbutions have AMD ports and IA-32 ports the architectures are completely different.

Allegro and SDL work on things called DLLs which DOS does not have and cannot execute or load into memory. Thus if you want to make a 32-bit DOS game you will have to rely on FB itself and libraries that can compile fully into your code. It should have at least compiled. Do you have something called...

P.S. DOSBox is not an Emulator unless you're running on AMD processors. It is a Virtual Machine if you're using an Intel processor. Huh? DOSBox is a DOS-emulator ... DOSBox also emulates CPU:286/386 ... DOSBox is an emulator, regardless of who made your CPU. An emulator is only an emulator if it is...

If you do have an issue, use DosBOX: the best DOS emulator ever (next to FreeDOS, but that's an OS by iteself). It's also a fairly slow emulator. Perhaps MS Virtual PC(now free) running an actual copy of DOS would be better? P.S. DOSBox is not an Emulator unless you're running on AMD processors. It...

Naw, use Clusty or Vivisimo so you don't have to wade through unwanted things while looking for the results you want.

Visual Basic for apps
Free Basic for games
Power Basic for apps or games

Powerbasic has to be the best on here. It has fast compile times with the Borland technology from TurboBASIC, and produces efficient code.

I don't know why, but C++ was very confusing to me compared to C. C was a piece of cake. Windows Programming was difficult but easier than C++. PHP was easier than C++. Hell, any language is easier to learn than C++ except Java... My advice: Learn C. It'll save yourself a lot of "um...what?". Then l...
