How QB Are You? quiz

I found this on DarkDread's old website...

http://darkdreams.rpgdx.net/qb_quiz.html

Heheh. A lot of the questions are pretty outdated, and go back to QB sites that haven't been around for almost ten years. I still scored 33/40 though!

Hmm, it seems that if you search for "qbasic" or "quickbasic," QBasic.com is no longer in the top search results. In fact, it's not even on the first page anymore.

I wonder if that's a search engine penalty for the spam links?

Either that, or Mark added those links himself to generate some sort of advertising revenue. QBasic.com has a very high Google PageRank because of all the links pointing toward it, and gets a lot of traffic since it's been the #1 ranked site for "qbasic" for years. I remember Mark was making a fair ...

Ugggh, it sure bothers me that such a great domain name is going to waste like that. Mark could have really done a great thing with QBasic.com, but he flaked out. The only worthwhile parts of it are Lachie's http://games.qbasic.com and the N54 forum...not because the layout is that great, but becaus...

In case you haven't seen it...QBasic Nerd music video

Jack Thomson from the QBasic Station made this video a while ago, and it's pretty awesome. It's also gotten 78,000+ views (!). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mal6XbN5cEg Lyrics are here: http://www.qbasicstation.com/index.php?c=i_qbnerd I think I'm going to put the lyrics in the next issue of QB Exp...

Yeah, I'd like to figure out a way to use the PHPBB accounts here and link it to the old Perl CGI back-end that I'm using. That way, you wouldn't be able to submit stuff unless you're logged into PHPBB. The only problem is I need to figure out how to do that, and then find the time to do the work. :)

Thanks for the info! The backend system here works fine -- I could just turn it back on -- but I disabled user submissions because it got completely inundated by spam. It got to the point where there would be 500 spam posts for every 1 legit one, and the spambots would crash the site at least twice ...

Okay, the deadline has come and gone, and I only received a PATHETIC number of submissions so far. I've decided to extend the deadline for one more week, until: NOVEMBER 20TH The next issue will be out shortly thereafter -- that is, if I receive enough submissions. So far, I've received only the fol...

QBasic communication through COM1 port? (reader question)

Question from QB Express reader Eric: Hi Pete, I am going to try to use Qbasic to talk to a piece of equipment through the COM1 port via RS232. I did this may years ago but I have forgot how to do this. I will need to both read and write information. Can you tell me the correct command, format and ...

Wow, almost every QB site used the same message board format: http://web.archive.org/web/20010803104155/http://neozones.tekscode.com/qboard.php3 Just like FlatForum (by Plasma) and QB45's original message board. There's a reason for that... back in 1997 and 1998, this website Server.com gave away f...

Already got an email back from Tek! He says he might have some backups, at least of the HTML / PHP portions of the site (but none of the old "QCity" files archive), and he'll upload it somewhere.

Haha, NeoZones was my favorite QB site back in the day, so I know quite a bit about it. I actually got an email from Tek out of the blue a few months ago that was like "wow, I can't believe this QBasic stuff is still going!" I'll try to email him to see if he has any backups. His professional websit...

Do a search through the Links section of this site (view source and search for "aol.com" or "hometown" or whatever). There are about 500 links, and they go do just about every QB site that was on the internet, circa 2004 when I made the links section. Also, use one of those spidering program that wi...
