Perhaps Pete is still busy and whatnot...I can certainly understand how that goes. It took me almost a full week longer than planned to get the GGA'04 online...

Pete, I was going to submit an article on the GGA, but as I was starting to write it, I realized that I didn't really have enough to say about it. :( That said, I've already submitted my article for this issue (XP Straightjacket), so that's all good. :D I'll see what I can come up with for an articl...

Re: Sounds like someone had a bad high school experience...

I think the fact that this kid has initiative to search for messageboards relating to qbasic suggests that he is putting some effort into his homework. Let's not be too harsh. #1: kids who post on messageboards looking for someone to do their homework for them are showing ZERO initiative. Initiativ...

A month extension? Sweet! That means I can actually compete in it! I've only conceptualized my game but now perhaps I can actually make it. I'm also, naturally, going to compete in my own compo in December (Text Adventure Compo '04), but I'll certainly make time to code up my game for this one. :D

It makes perfect sense nathan...this person wants someone to write out a game for them in QB and post its code here on the forum so they can pass their programming class...they were probably too busy flirting with someone or fork around in general and didn't pay attention and now they're stuck and n...

It's also inefficient and "wrong". :D If you can learn file functions in QB, you will be able to figure it out quite easily. Look up OPEN, GET, PUT, CLOSE. Learn to open files in BINARY mode. Learn those details, and you'll be able to figure out the rest on your own. :D

I still plan on contributing *something*...just not quite sure what yet. After I get back from Blockbuster, I have to finish up the scripts for the GGA'04 so I can get it online and live...so my time at this moment is a bit preoccupied. :(

#6 is pretty subjective. It all depends on the computer you're using. While it used to be that pure DOS was certainly the fastest...nowadays, things have changed a bit. So it's all dependant on your system. :D

Sure you can with QB. If it's an ASCII file, all you need to know how to do is: 1. Keep track of line numbers (hint: use variables) 2. Know how to use MID$ 3. Know how to use LINE INPUT 4. Knowledge of fixed-length strings might help if all the lines are of the same size, otherwise, just knowing how...

V Planet! Updates

This updates marks the beginning of the new age of V Planet. It's a small update, but hopefully it will prove once and for all that V Planet is NOT dead after all, but is just beginning its second life. Stop by and check it out!

The best way to go about that would be the "hard" way, which would be to read the data inside the BMP file itself and only displaying the pixels in the range you want. Say like...you could loop through the image data and only draw the pixels which fell into a certain range of X/Y coordinat...

Digital Blackie often offers hosting to "homeless" BASIC programmers as well. Not much, but better than nothing. :D

Well then, happy (one-day belated) birthday then :) I don't know if it's official or not or if it was leaked...it was likely reverse-engineered. It's not like Microsoft just goes giving this stuff out for free unless it was leaked (like Windows Longhorn was...nice attempt at a cover-up, but people a...
