Possible Future for Qbasic & QuickBasic

Post by Kiyotewolf »

As games in-browser.

http://www.classicdosgames.com/online/paku_1_5.html

They used jDosBox on this website, to host a java version of DOSBOX, we have a new way to distribute & share games.

I don't wanna deal with ClassicDosGames dot com, I wanna figure out how to use the jDosBox ourselves.

Ooh man this pumps me up, I'm excited now.

What's the difference? Is it better than DOSBOX?

There is no difference, it IS DosBox, same as

DOSBOX.EXE

except,

You can include all the settings, and have the webpage boot your game program, without having any user interaction, to get the "DOSBOX set just right", somehow, they get all the settings pre-set, and in the *.IMG file, which is mounted to the DOSBOX written in JAVA.

This flavor of DOSBOX is in Java, and hosted from SourceForge (SourceFordge?), and is by the same authors (or ported from the original C source of) / as the original DOSBOX.

I'm going to do the grunt work, then do a VIDEO TUTORIAL, on how to make your own private game hosting web pages.

It's a big thing now, to Ustream, but I'm not going to go live anything, I'm going to pre-record tutorials in video, my son is going to assist.

Going to teach the web, and my son, at the same exact time, all my horrible coding techniques and the cool stuff that's not spaghetti code.

Awesome! That could definitely bring QB back to life online.

I imagine that if Lachie Dazdarian's games.qbasic.com archive were set up to run completely in browser, a lot of people would want to play games on the web.

I know I've run a few oldschool games in browser emulators (Oregon Trail, Mathblaster) just for the nostalgia.
