What is the best QBasic game developer of all time?

With the help of Lachie Dazdarian, I've decided to run a tournament to find out who the community thinks is the greatest QB game programmer / programming group of all time.

The two of us have nominated the 50 top QB game developers, who we feel deserve special recognition for their contributions to the QB gaming scene. From these 50 choices, YOU are going to vote to select the greatest QB game programmer. The winner will receive a special award at the Qlympics 2006, which will take place in QB Express over the next few months.

I've randomly split up the nominees into five divisions. You will get to vote for the top developer in each division, and then we will have a final vote between the five finalists.

For those of us programmers that are not game oriented, I think the tournament should be called "Best QB Game Developer of All Time."

Perhaps another tournament could be organized for utility developers, application developers, etc.

I personally tend to dislike these polls, as they dissolve into popularity contests (as I can already see from the current polling results) but I voted anyways.

Yeah...well, that's kinda the point. This is a popularity contest.

Yeah, his *FREEBASIC* text adventure... check out Jill The Goddess -- it's in QB and much better too.

I don't agree with you Nek, I voted for a group which I never or almost never spoke to. Gotta be the point of this poll to vote for the best game, not your friends.

*whacks Nathan1993 with a tremendously huge TROUT*

Ahnfelt: did you even read what I said? Obviously not...

Popularity contests suck. :P  This should be called "Most Popular QB Game Developers Of All Time" because it sure isn't gonna be about the best, and you know it. :D (for example: I see Mike Hoopmann up there but not Lithium? ????)

Maybe Lithium should have made the list (it's a close call), but you have to make cuts when you limit yourself to 50 developers. Besides, he was a member of Darkness Ethereal at one point.

But Michael Hoopmann not making the list? He made one of the best QB RPGs ever, and one of the very few complete ones. I played Dark Ages for about fifteen hours straight and loved it. Sure, the graphics, music, battle engine, etc. were not great, but the gameplay was awesome. There's no way Lithium is more deserving to be on the list than Michael Hoopmann. XGMAE just never did it for me...and that's really the only complete game I can think of that Lithium made in QB.

Nek: All I'm saying is that some people actually do vote for whoever they think made the best game, but you're probably right in the end.

Either way, I'm happy there's some focus on these old gems.

Oh yeah, I was a member of Delta-code sometime :P It lasted very shortly because Rico (another member) and I decided to make a game on our own (I deserve no credit what-so-ever for the making of any delta-code games, only Joe worked on those).

Oh hush! :P Just cause I missed it.. :P
Then he's just mad cause he's not popular..

Nek: I am not voting for him because he is *popular*, I think he is a jerk. I am voting for him for is awsome IF tutorials. That counts as a game... right? Oh well, my vote, my rules...

I'm just concerned that certain people won't be recognized for their efforts, that's all. I could care less about winning anything (:P Z!re), but there are people who are gonna get screwed out of some recognition simply because they're either unpopular or no longer around.
