Yeah, right... this is phishing if I've ever seen it. I don't for a minute believe that this came from the admin here at Pete's, yet it did come by e-mail, and my e-mail addy here is hidden. Anybody got any idea what's going on?

Edit: My bad: It came as a PM. It was the PM notification that came by e-mail.

Edit 2: The link has been corrupted so it can't be followed by a child.

There are no such tests here, but why be an ass and include the link? You are just as bad as the spammer!

what? he's just reporting the PM and outing it as spam. (i got one too)

if somebody clicks the link from this thread, they're pretty stupid. don't be an ass, nothing wrong with what he did here.

BTW, I used the SAME message system to notify the REAL moderators. You probably could never figure that out smarty pants!

WHO ARE YOU? Don't mess with me BIG BOY! 2 posts in 2 years tells me that you are either ignorant about programming or you just like to not participate. Thanks for participating in your own small way.

There are a couple other recent new users with the same style of usernames. The link shown here goes to a suspended hosting account so is harmless now but any Windows users who visited before it was terminated so sort their systems asap.

I just got a message that was apparently from the ModeratorTeam, but our Mods already removed them.

Thanks Sid6.7!

= why be an ass and include the link?

Good grief burger2227, chill out with the asinine name calling willya? You look stupid with your chest all swelled out like that, over nothing. Mike Chambers is right, it would take a retard to click the link in a post that says "This link is a phishing attempt"... and even at that, the retard would be asked for NeonVincent's username and password, not his own. So, it would take a DOUBLE retard to clear the username field and enter his own, and then his password, AFTER getting there from a "Warning: this is a phishing link" post.

And what takes a TRIPLE retard? How about attacking a newbie for reporting... never mind.

= Neon is not a new user

Yeah, I'm an old timer with a long beard. I believe I have participated in precisely ONE thread before this one, and that this right here is my EIGHTH post since I joined here. Yeah, I'm a real old salt of this sea.

And speaking of that ONE other thread I was in, it was YOU who was so helpful and got me the answers I needed... so what went wrong? Did you just wake up on the wrong side of the bed of nails?

How about we drop it and move on?

I have seen this happen before and yes, you are not an oldtimer. I just don't see the sense in spreading bad links anywhere is all. Kids come here too and they might try out the link!

We believe you, so why post the message? That's all...

OK, point taken, I won't post any more such links.

long time sense I've followed up on any posts, any way...
you would think this ModeratorTeam dude or who-ever would of put more thought on who they're trying to fork over. I mean c'mon the last place I'd try this shit on is a community of programmers!

kinda makes me wish we could all send a reply reading "not intrested in your shit and fork you very much for the annoyance" and clog his inbox or something, well that's wishfull thinking I guess...

DON'T WORRY! I did that as soon as I found out about it and immediately notified our Mods.

If you actually GOT the message, you are lucky. I got nothing but a blank screen after I M F'd them because they were deleted already.

GOOD JOB SID!

So, I checked my email, Hmm PM in Petesqbsite forum... it's been years from the last time I visited... Well, last time I was here, I was an undergrad... Yeah, this site has helped me to finish my graduate degree.

...so thanks to the phishing attempt, here I am... been three years from then...

How are you all doing?

Hey guys...

This spam/phishing problem seems to be widespread through PHPBB forums all over the Internet, and I haven't found a way to prevent it yet. If anyone has heard of a solution, please send me an email. (pberg1@gmail.com)

If the problem persists and I can't figure out a way to block the spammers, I might disable PMs entirely on the forum.

Rather than eliminating PMs, could you perhaps limit them to three an hour or ten a day or something similarly reasonable? By the time just a few had gone out, someone would have reported the spammer, probably.

Or how about basing it on longevity: The longer you've been here and the more posts you've made, the greater your PM priveleges.

But a forum without PMs would be crippling, and it would definitely be letting the spammers win, and making a whole community suffer for the misdeeds of the occasional drunken horse's ass. Please don't do that :)

There are a lot of Forums without PM's. I rarely get any!

It won't "CRIPPLE" anything. Emails are just as good, but if some moron wants to try to trick you, they could use emails just as easily.

I wouldn't worry about it. Just don't click OR POST the links!
