A Crazy Australian Man Made This Crazy Video Game In QBASIC
MARK SERRELS 8 APRIL 2013 2:30 PM

Black Annex is an action strategy game about corporate sabotage and infiltration. You manage your company?s resources, you deploy agents to murder, kidnap and obliterate your enemies. This in itself is a unique enough proposition to warrant some sort of headline on Kotaku, but you haven?t heard the best part: the entire game has been built, from the ground up, in QBASIC.

It actually looks pretty cool and not just ?cool for a QBASIC? cool. It looks ?regular? cool. If you had told me about this game, and just shown me the above trailer, I?d probably still be interested by virtue of the game?s interesting concept.

Black Annex has been created by Lance E. McDonald, an independent developer living in regional Australia. You can support the project on Steam Greenlight. We spoke to Lance, and we?ll be putting together a bigger look at the creation of this game in the future, but he informed us that he?s showing off Black Annex at PAX Australia. If you?re heading there, be sure to check it out.

I've seen scenes from this game at the QB64 site. Not sure if it is an imitation gamer or the actual developer.

Is the game called Revenge? http://www.qb64.net/forum/index.php?topic=6762.0

hey

Hey, I'm the guy making Black Annex. You've probably seen my threads on the QB64 forums (Although I dunno why you linked to that Revenge thread, that's totally unrelated to Black Annex).

Anyway, if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

A clone of what? Revenge? I don't even know what that is.

edit: Okay, I just downloaded Revenge and checked it out... no my game is not a clone of this or even remotely related or similar to it in any way. It's some kind of platformer? It's hard to tell because it just crashes constantly.

A clone is an exact copy. Are you the author of the game above or are you copying it as I have seen that game screen at QB64. Forget about that other game. I apologized already

I gather by your name that you are from Australia too.

I am Klangaroo on the QB64 forums, I'm the game guy making that game. It's my game. It's a screenshot of the same game.

OK, good to know. I knew I saw it there somewhere. How far have you gotten with it?

I hope it runs as well on QB64. It should.

Is this game made in Qbasic or QB64? There is a difference!

If you made the game in QB64 then why is that never mentioned at your site? All I see is Qbasic mentioned.

QB64 can do much more than Qbasic can. It is a programming language with a C compiler that not only creates Qbasic programs, but programs that can use sound files, 32 bit color with alpha transparency, TCP/IP, multiple controller devices, USB printers and can use DLL and OS specific API libraries.
