Windows XP to Windows 7 32 bit laptop:

I always did have sound, but after the driver install, it went away while watching a video so I asked Win 7 to check it out and it appears to have fixed it so well that I'm getting twice the volume I ever got before.

Qbasic sound only comes with BEEP like it always used to do. A Windows alert sound. Nothing else works. The laptop has no internal speakers...

DOS shortcuts don't seem to like icons either! I assigned one, but all I get is a white sheet of paper:

XP and Widows 7 32 bit desktop:
This is what I got when I clicked on the former XP desktop, which has not updated drivers:
Image
Good ole Intel! You would figure that the Windows 8 checker would have found that...

Using the DirectX Diagnostic Tool found in Windows\system32 I found it has DirectX 11:
Image
At least the driver is 2006 instead of some older versions I have found. I guess I'm stuck with Windows 7.

Beware of Driver Assistant programs! They LIE that they have NEWER DRIVERS!

Windows XP to Windows 7 32 bit laptop:
The laptop fared better with this assessment of DirectX 11 also:
Image

Finally the Windows 10 App says the laptop is ready to go!

God Mode lists all kinds of Tasks that you can use to keep your computer running well!

Enabling GodMode for Windows 10

This trick also works in Windows 7 up.

Here's how to AVOID all of the new Microsoft snooping:

Here’s how to protect yourself from M$ when installing Wndows 10.

My laptop's Windows 10 Upgrade is ready:
Image

My Win 7 64 bit desktop is still waiting so I found some optional updates to install:
Image
ONE optional update FAILED! Do I need that graphics driver? Remember that is why one computer fails Win 10!

By highlighting the failed update and right clicking Copy Details I get the following text:
Intel Corporation - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2 - Intel(R) HD Graphics

Installation date: ‎8/‎5/‎2015 11:07 AM

Installation status: Failed

Error details: Code 80070103

Update type: Optional

Intel Corporation Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2 software update released in May, 2015

More information:
http://sysdev.microsoft.com/support/default.aspx

Help and Support:
http://support.microsoft.com/select/?target=hub
The driver refuses to install correctly over and over:
Image
I tried installing a new driver in Device Manager to no avail. Says it has the newest driver already!

So I decided to go to the Windows Update list, highlight the driver, right click and HIDE IT:
Image
I sure hope this thing gets the Upgrade soon! I wanted this one to be the guinea pig...

I decided to give the Intel Update Utility a go and it found one driver to install, successfully I thought:
Image
I rebooted and ran it again and up came the SAME driver with the same old version still installed.

Note: The Intel Updater downloads to the shown folder in the Intel Components folder.

So here's the M$ plan for OS expiration's XP to Windows 10:
Image
‘Windows 10 Home’ and ‘Windows 10 Pro’ editions retail for $119 and $199 respectively.

The free upgrade must be installed within one year until July 29, 2016. It can be re-installed.

Also M$ will be charging for Solitaire without ads and the now free Windows DVD Player in future years.

Cumulative Update for Windows 10: August 5, 2015 (KB3081424)

Can't wait for the Win 10 App to be ready?
Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool

How to temporarily prevent a Windows or driver update from reinstalling in Windows 10 (KB3073930)

Windows 7 64 bit desktop:
Found this Update listed on my 64 bit Windows 7 so I downloaded it:
Image

2,712.6 MB or over 2 G will take a while:
Image

20 minutes downloading and now preparing:
Image
If that bar is any indication, I've got a while to wait yet. Already 20 minutes after downloading.

Finally after 45 minutes total:

Here we go:

Here's the C: drive before the Windows 10 install:

Windows 7 64 bit desktop:
Upgrading was kind of dull with just 3 boring screens waiting to fill the circle:
Image
No advertisements, talking about new stuff or nothing.

This is the only App explanation with the installation. Use the settings on left to select items:
Image

BEWARE of the big Express button on the right! Click the smaller Custom Settings icon on the left for more privacy!
Image

When Windows 10 was finally running, I barely knew the difference until I clicked start window:
Image
I lost my desktop calendar and Accuweather Forecast with Dell's Stage that I always was killing off.

The Win 10 install just added 9 G to the hard drive usage:
Image

So far I think Windows 7 loaded a lot faster...

I like the open windows button on the new task bar:
Image
I have Facebook and Twitter Apps running along with Chrome browser that never missed a beat!

Windows 10 did take the Default Browser settings and gave them to Edge. Same old M$!

The program windows are colorless and look really dull! Hope they add colors later!

Free game! Candy Crush Saga. Solitaire with ads is there too...from Xbox

Added a Calendar App and it synced up with my calendar on my Windows Phone.

NO SCREENSAVER, just monitor off and Sleep setting!

If you have a Microsoft Account the password may become your Windows 10 password too!
I also was recommended to have a lock screen passkey number for my phone!

Windows 7 to 10 32 bit laptop:
God Mode offers a full menu of OS functionality at my fingertips:
Image
I selected Reliability since I installed Windows 7. There are a lot more options below these too!

Here is the link again to God Mode in Win 7 too: Enabling GodMode for Windows 10

Here are the latest Reliability History for my XP to Win 7 laptop upgrade:
Image
Most are simply failed updates! Also a Bluetooth warning, but my BT keyboard works fine. Probably my Win Phone.
I have been able to connect the phone directly with a micro USB cable and I can see SD card files.

Solutions mostly recommend Windows 10...
Image

The desktop XP to 7 upgrade has kept shutting down every 4 or 5 days. No solutions there yet. Power supply?

Laptop quit going into Sleep mode even after some reboots, same as XP did at times...

I will wait a while to upgrade the laptop! Maybe next week...

Windows 7 to 10 32 bit laptop:
I am getting nags to install Windows 10 on my laptop:
Image

Dell is now selling a laptop similar to mine except I added double the hard drive space
Image
Both are 15" with a 1.6 Ghz processor and 2 G of memory.

Still getting used to my Win 10 64 bit desktop. Like the FREE Apps!

My XP to Win 7 desktop shows red X's where it actually shut down:
Image
Naturally more information or solutions just told me nothing. It isn't suggesting Windows 10 either...

Windows 7 to 10 32 bit laptop:

The Edge default browser BS finally got to me in Windows 10:
Image
Search for DEFAULT device or browser. Chrome was also listed so I changed it to that.
Chrome was asking if it was the default browser EVERY TIME IT WAS STARTED! BS Browser Wars!

So it has a place for a Default Calendar which is CLEARLY in the Startup area...
Image
The Calendar App I installed already SYNCED UP with the one in my Windows Phone!
Image
...but says I have NOTHING!

So I LOOK FOR AN APP with a above box that comes up and apparently its idea of a calendar is APPOINTMENTS...
Image
Not my search criteria, Window's! Have no idea how to put ANYTHING I WANT in the Default App boxes if it is not already listed!

Windows 7 to 10 32 bit laptop:
I decided to install Windows 10 today on Laptop and with it downloaded already, it took an hour.
Here's the entire install log:
11:08 Installing Upgrade and Accept or Decline TOS agreement with Arbitration naturally.
11:10 Shutdown and configure updates
11:20 Upgrading Windows copy files
11:40 Upgrading Windows installing features and drivers
11:52 Upgrading Windows configuring settings
11:58 Setting up Apps and a few more things until 12:12 PM

Image
This page created a lot of controversy for sharing internet networks. Win 10 Express skips it!

Here's the laptop's desktop, nothing much new here:
Image

The lousey Canon Camera Window software quit working, so I installed Sony's Play Memories FREE.
A popup window let me set it up to run when the freaking camera is plugged in and then I get THIS BS!
Image
GUESS WHAT I now have to SHUT IT DOWN AND RUN IT AS A FREAKING ADMINISTRATOR!

And the ONLY WAY TO GET RID OF THE PROBLEM IS TO DO IT ALL MANUALLY!

So I ASK Cortana in the HUGE UGLY search bar and I GET THIS CRAP:
Image
And clicking YES does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! IE: Use Edge or flake off!...

Photobucket no longer allows Drag and Drop? Must want another Administrator...

A New Chrome Google Search tab page actually gave me a WARNING to only ENTER AN URL...

After 10 minutes of clicking the Photobucket copy code link, I got this reply from Google:
Image

And Windows 10 hands out all kinds of Administrator privileges to things I NEVER HEARD OF:
Image
ALL APPLICATIONS
CREATOR OWNER <----What creator? WHO IS THIS? GOD?
SYSTEM oughta include eveybody I need eh?
Administrator me...
User me...
TrustedInstaller? Me too?

WHERE did all these STUPID Administrators COME FROM? Can I deduct them as DEPENDENTS?

They got PARENTS TOO! OMG! THIS SUCKS! JUST GIVE THEM ALL FULL PRIVILEGES!

When Play Memories now decides to open and then decides not to download media GUESS WHO!
Image
WMPnetworkSvc? Windows 10 is supposed to TRASH WMP. Now we know why!

I was able to finally download the picture when I FIXED ALL ADMIN TO ALLOW ALL FULLY!
Now IMAGINE HAVING TO DO THAT EVERY FREAKING DAY THAT YOU TRANSFER PHOTO'S!

Windows 7 to 10 32 bit laptop:

Had to ask Windows 10 to install NTVDM for Quick Basic:
Image
A click on the desktop QB4.5 shortcut and Windows said NTVDM needed to be installed.

Went to Windows Update in Settings and found about FIVE FAILED UPDATES. Trying them now...
Update history says they were installed OK.

The 32 bit laptop also kept the Bubbles screen saver on a black background...strange:
Image
I am using a smaller Bluetooth back lit keyboard instead of straining to type from my couch.

NEVER went to Sleep! Now demands my Microsoft password instead of the Win 7 password.

Also had to do the FULL ALLOW Administrator thing to the entire Pictures folder!

Laptop Facebook App froze and could not reopen.

After several clicks on Facebook App, the entire Win 10 Start Menu disappeared, never to return.

Somehow a menu appeared after repeated clicks on the Start Window Icon and I did a Restart.

Shutdown took 1:30

Restart took 2:30 to get to desktop. Assume 20 seconds used to verify M$ password on WIFI?

The Facebook App has just disappeared before, but never like this crap! Have to use scroll down to check...

Windows 7 to 10 32 bit laptop:
I had Open With set up for BAS files, but Windows 10 only kept Notepad:
Image

You have to look elsewhere for QB64 in Choose another App ...where QB magically is now listed too...
Image
Even after I selected QB64 and Always Open With, I still have to go to a second list still with Notepad!

On a good note, my pictures are now loading into the daily created folder...so far oriented properly too!
Image
I don't even need to rotate them anymore in the Play Memories daily picture folders! I moved them...

On a bad note, Photobucket reorients them back to the way my camera was positioned. Even worse, when
I went to Edit it, the picture was mirrored backwards and I HAD TO SAVE IT THAT WAY to get it un-mirrored!
Drag and Drop quit working there yesterday and I notified them...hate to have to bother them again.

Windows 7 to 10 32 bit laptop:
Only Touchpad setting I found was a delay that did absolutely NOTHING to stop cursor movement when typing nearby:
Image
Windows 7 had a touchpad setting for off when a mouse was found and a taskbar warning box to that effect at startup.

Mouse settings seem to work OK. Nothing for Touchpad off.
Image
Except now the auto pointer to default selection box is always checked but works with Delete Yes as default!
No is actually darkened, yet it selects yes and makes deletion TOO EASY!

Decided to re-install the Dell R120179 Synaptic's Touchpad driver still in my C:\Dell\driver folder.
That got the Touchpad to turn off and notify after a restart, but all of the mouse settings were GONE!
The old Dell R132660 mouse driver I had installed in Windows 7 must have been upgraded and said so and quit.
So I went to Logitech Set Point here and downloaded their latest driver: http://support.logitech.com/software/setpoint
SetPoint Smart Installer
Software Version: 6.67.82
Post Date: Jul 29, 2015
OS: Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP (or older), Windows 10
File Size: 3.7 MB
This also required a restart to remove an older version first. Then I finally got both settings together!
Image
I also set the mouse pointer to go to the default System popup box buttons. Now to restart and test it all...

As I feared, the pointer setting was lost on reboot just like way back in XP times:
Image
I'll have to SET IT EVERY BOOT if I want to use it any!

Here's the Touchpad warning working on startup:
Image
Now I can also type without having fingers or palms making the pointer move to bad places!

BACK TO THIS BS AGAIN! UNBELIEVABLE and after going to A DOZEN SITES STILL NO ANSWERS!
Image

Then after I ALLOW, I get this freaking ERROR OVER AND OVER. I REFUSE TO GIVE UP!
Image

THE HOME BASTARD GOTTA GO!

If I remove it, I LOSE IT! Now what do I do? WHO IS THIS BS?

ABSOLUTELY NO SETTINGS TO FIX THAT I CAN SEE! REMOVE OR KEEP THE BS?

SYSTEM and me have all the allows so I REMOVED IT AND I STILL HAVE 3 USER ADMINISTRATORS!

Windows 7 to 10 32 bit laptop:
Laptop computer still has NEVER GONE TO SLEEP! Quick press of power button blacks out everything immediately.

Press power button later on and it restarts WITHOUT ANY PASSWORD NECESSARY! Never goes to Sleep automatically!

So I only need the Microsoft Account password after a new start or a restart. STRANGE!

This is where I think the problem lies with the HomeUsers.
That account may be my OLD password account I made up for Windows 7!
M$ just took over the computer using my Microsoft Account info and the old password was just forgotten about...

When the Bubbles screensaver comes on, the Bluetooth and power LED's stay lit.
So it never Sleeps, just blacks the screen out. A mouse move restarts everything.

That may save some battery power, but it is nothing like a full sleep! Sleep powers off the hard drive after 30 minutes, 15 on battery.

So far Windows 10 has been a complete FLOP on my laptop and not much improvement on my 64 bit desktop machine.

My Windows Phone Apps purchased can also be put on either or both computers for FREE!

Facebook App QUIT OVERNIGHT again! Another reason to want Windows 10...

The Twitter App has everything listed down the left side. Home, Alerts(bell), Messages, Search and Profile posts:
Image
The feather Quill is for new messages and the circle below it is to cycle to latest messages.
Setting progress to top or recycling sets new messages to appear on top automatically.

Unlike the Facebook App which forces you to try to scroll up for new stuff if it is not updating.
Image
The app appears to mirror how I have FB set up in my browser. Most Recent clock button refreshes or
it can reveal the drop down menu which can send you to Newsfeed, Photos, Close Friends or See all...

BTW, MSPaint still works great and is located in All Apps\ Windows Accessories.
SURE M$, make us SCROLL all the way to Windows Accessories instead of Accessories...

Windows 7 to 10 32 bit laptop:

As for my picture folder, I decided to try the Advanced Sharing tab settings:
Image

Image

Wish me luck! Gonna reboot now to see if it helps...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

So I'll try Advanced:
Image

I added the other permissions, clicked OK and then Apply and got this error:
Image
I kept trying until it went away! THIS IS RIDICULOUS! I AM THE ONLY ADMINISTRATOR FOOLS!

Will attempt a reboot again!...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Image

Image

Image

HOORAY! NOW EVERY FOLDER INSIDE NEEDS THE SAME THING! Including NEW ONES CREATED BY the picture program!

This is how I set Pictures folder to INHERIT by pressing the Enable Inheritance button, which changes to Disable it if pressed again:
Image
However after a reboot, the Enable Inherit button returns! UNBELIEVABLE!
I was actually able to download a picture after changing it! SHARING just added more Administrators, like I NEED THEM?
ALL I NEED IS ONE! ME!!!!

I GIVE UP!

Who said that Windows Media Player was history n Windows 10?
Image

I've seldom ever used it, but here it is with nothing in it! It came with Windows 7:
Image
I never had any luck playing a ton of files with older versions so I used MPC Star's player.

I installed VLC Player because I thought it would be gone!

I got a WARNING today that DVD's were not set up, but it went away while I was trying to fix pictures.
Haven't seen it since! I did see that some updates were installed in the right Action Center notices.
Image
I get notifications from Outlook and Twitter so far. Nothing important. Once clicked they disappear.

Here is a clearer look at the settings for mobile devices including laptops I gather:
Image
* sets screen brightness from 25% to 100%. The WIFI button can connect or disconnect each press.

Seems that many people miss the Control Panel in Windows 10. It's a right click away:
Image
Just right click the Start Window and up pops a list of options. Device Manager is listed too.
