Microsoft cuts off Windows 8's security updates on January 12
Users must upgrade to Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 to keep getting patches.

Intel Skylake bug causes PCs to freeze during complex workloads
Intel has developed a fix, and is working with hardware partners to distribute it via a BIOS update.

No reason has been given as to why the bug occurs, but it's confirmed to affect SOME Linux and Windows-based systems. Prime95, which has historically been used to benchmark and stress-test computers, uses Fast Fourier Transforms to multiply extremely large numbers. A particular exponent size, 14,942,209, has been found to cause the system crashes.

Today is the day when you can get the official update for phones with Windows Mobile 10! The news gave the Polish branch of T-Mobile, indicating that the update is available for the model 640 Lumia. Currently we do not know too much about the update, T-Mobile did not give details nor build number which has been made available. We look forward to the first users, who will update and share with us this information.

Microsoft has today released a brand new build of Windows 10 Redstone for Insiders to begin testing on their machines. Build 11099 is very similar to 11082, being that there are not many new features as most changes are still happening under the hood.

Build 11099 has just started rolling out for Insiders in the fast ring, so if you can’t see it yet that’s probably because the update is still propagating throughout the Windows Update servers, so give it a bit of time. Microsoft is using these early development builds to improve the OneCore system that underlies the operating system.

How to banish the Windows 10 upgrade prompts in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1

Warning! This fix involves editing the registry! I'm still keeping it on one while hoping for a new display driver...

Microsoft expands Get Windows 10 campaign to domain-joined Win7, Win8.1 PCs
While it's true that you can set the two Registry keys, DisableGWX and DisableOSUpgrade, to prevent the Get Windows 10 icon from appearing in the system tray and block the Windows 10 installer -- at least, this week -- that's only part of the story. Those Registry entries won't do a thing to prevent the Get Windows 10 (GWX) app from installing, nor will they delete the 3GB to 6GB of data that Microsoft may have surreptitiously put on your hard drive, clear out the GWX crapware on your PC, or prevent the scheduled GWX tasks from running -- including automatic reset of certain Registry entries.

Facebook app is totally useless today! Waited 30 minutes for News Feed and it still had not loaded!
Settings could not load either. It closes on its own EVERY DAY, thankfully it does not show up as a failure every time!

Laptop is slower on most everything including Chrome with pages loading over most times when clicking the tabs.
So much for Threshold 2!

Laptop never went to full sleep last night and Bluetooth keyboard failed to work . Took forever to remove!
Image
Had to reboot and fell into same problem. The Windows 10 circle jerk! After 10 minutes I held button down.

SIX DAYS from last Sleep that never woke up, the Stability looks better but it still runs slower:
Image
Reliability shows two Bluetooth updates and here are the technical details...
Description

Even after a reboot, I had to remove the keyboard AGAIN as BT Settings was still removing it!

When you lose the keyboard, you cannot re-install it until you remove it. GOT YA TWICE!
No mention of Windows not being shutdown correctly yet either.

Today I used the My Radar app and it froze! After that most apps in the Start Menu no longer wok!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It appears that the Windows Store does no work from a link with Amazon anymore either. Acton Center won't open...

While looking for the Windows Store I happened on a page with a M$ phone number to call:
Image
They CALLED ME! Then an expert from the Philippines did what they always do and I have done before. DOS
Image
The top command failed to do anything and then said there was an error, try again THREE TIMES!
The SFC scan found nothing. But the Direct X diagnosis found it was version 9Ex instead of 11.

I searched the web and found that the same thing was happening to VISTA long ago. M$ says just ignore it!

Laptop again failed to wake up and had to force a reboot by holding the power button down.
Sleep problems are happening every 5 to 7 days max!

This has brought Stability below 5 of 10. Quit using Facebook app and back to browser...

Yesterday I was able to pair up a Bluetooth headset with a Mic with the laptop easily.
Don't know how well the microphone works yet. It is just a small hole in the right pad.

Today i found Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 (KB3124262).

How to manage notifications in Windows 10

Just updated my desktop which was set to wait until I authorize a reboot. The updates install automatically, just no reboot.
Task bar on 64 bit desktop refuses to hide anymore. M$ STILL has not fixed this properly? Did the same thing in XP at times...

A notification bar came out saying a Java Update was ready, click here. Tried to and it disappeared too fast!
NOTHING IN ACTION CENTER except an Updates were installed notification that does absolutely NOTHING!

Sunday is the FIFTH DAY running so time to mess up! Laptop Bluetooth remote keyboard stops working suddenly:
Image
Bluetooth Settings said there was a BT Keyboard "Driver error".
So I have to remove it and reinstall, but NO WAY, Settings does absolutely nothing AGAIN.

So guess what? Time for the reboot or lose it Windows 10 dance! Corporations are gonna LOVE IT!

REBOOT just shows that AWFUL circle jerk forever. PUSH the dam button and hold it down till it dies!
REBOOT comes up with no WIFI connection. Double click it in taskbar and click on your service ID.
FIRST TIME I EVER HAD TO DO THAT to get WIFI!

Keyboard uninstall finally worked. but now I cannot enter a pass code with it. Then this comes up instead:
Image
??? am I supposed to enter and with what? Tried 0000 on laptop keyboard but no go. What SAME passcode?
The 10 plus digits it came up with the first try it failed? Like I remember that number?

Windows Phone and other devices show up with "Driver error" messages now too! Asked to enter 10 digit code
from my phone too! Exactly WHERE would I enter this? As a phone number, text or web page address?
Finally connected again, but I HAD to remove it first! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

You will need to install Windows 7 on that XP hard drive anyhow. You can get a Win 7 disk for about $50 on Ebay.
Make sure that the disk comes with a genuine Windows key! Cheaper disks are for users with the original keys.
Make sure that your PC is set up to use the DVD or CD drive FIRST to boot in the BIOS if using a new hard dive or formatting the old infected one.

Windows 7 should install over XP without much problems, but you will lose all of your installed programs and FILES. If you want a larger hard drive, this is the time to install it! Follow my instructions at the start of this thread. You can also download a Windows 8.1 tester to your XP to test the drivers and installed programs for compatibility. You may not be able to if the disk is infected badly.

After Win 7 is installed you can test the drivers using the links at the beginning of this thread or wait for Windows 10 to do the testing after a few days on its own. Not all XP PC's will be able to be upgraded to Win 10! But Windows 7 actually is better than XP or Windows 10 in my testing. It actually fixed my laptop's Bluetooth drivers!

I may still go back to 7 on this laptop if the problems do not resolve pretty soon myself!

Fed up with the keyboard problem, decided to Restore the laptop to 1-27-16, the last Critical Update:
Image
(KB3124262) Restore does not mess with your files or programs! RESET DOES!

After Restoring he Registry it cleans up temporary files
Image
The entire Restore took about 20 minutes and rebooted. Was able to use BT keyboard to enter password.

IT WORKED! I'm using the Bluetooth keyboard already without even pairing!

My post on the Microsoft forums

Now what do I do with the KB3124262 Cumulative Update that is sitting in my Updates Settings? No way to
STOP it. I can only delay the reboot or remove previous updates AFTER they are installed...

What happens to those free Windows 10 upgrades after July 29, 2016?

Problems with the Surface have got Microsoft fans riled up.

Apparently the KB3124262 Cumulative Update DID NOT install last night after I put the laptop to Sleep.

It is still listed in Windows Update settings as waiting for me to click the Install Now button...
Image
Technical Description: The previous system shutdown at 12:32:31 AM on ‎2/‎2/‎2016 was unexpected.

After I signed in from the lock screen with the Bluetooth keyboard successfully I am greeted with this error:
Image

The KB3124262 Cumulative Update is still waiting for me to install now with button...

Normally updates are automatically downloaded and I determine the time to install on the reboot.

Got my normal ONE USELESS REPLY so far from M$ Support:
Hi,
Thank you for keeping us updated. Keep us posted for any queries and suggestions related to Windows.
Also Cortana keeps popping up saying "Sorry, I didn't get that" at various times all day...I don't get it either

Found a solution for Hiding Updates in Windows 10 using wushowhide.diagcab:

How to temporarily prevent a Windows or driver update from reinstalling in Windows 10

Download or Run the program to hide or show updates, even ones ready to install.

After a minute or so of progress bars, it will just say it is fixed, whatever that means:

Sleep no longer wakes up after overnight rest...comatose!

Found the ERROR! Due to Reg Cure Pro a "Micro$oft Partner" that does nothing until you pay $40.
Right clicking the error box icon in the task bar listed Reg Cure Pro or Unpin from taskbar options.
Uninstalled! FIXED

Uninstalled the KB3124262 Cumulative Update from Update Advanced Settings!
In Update Settings go to Advanced options, View Update History:
Image
A list of updates are displayed including apparently the one I just removed!

Click the Uninstall Updates link to Control Panel at top of page:

Highlight the one you wish to remove and click Uninstall above the list to the right of Organize

Finally got another reply from M$ Support:
Hi,
Thank you for replying.
Happy to know that the error on every boot is fixed. Your efforts to work on this issue is very much appreciated.
A quick question before we proceed:
Are you still facing the issue with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth?
Sleep issue might have caused due to issues with power management.
The power troubleshooter can automatically detect and fix any incorrect power settings. Refer to these steps to run this troubleshooter:

1. Select settings in the drop down menu below search and type Troubleshooting.
2. Click on Troubleshooting and select the view all option on the left pane.
3. Click on Power troubleshooter and follow the prompts.
If you are facing any issue with Wi-Fi I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Network troubleshooting
On the search bar type “Troubleshooting”
Click on “Network and Internet”
Click on “Network Adapter” and run the troubleshooter.

Method 2: Download and install the latest firmware updates for the Wi-Fi adapter
Follow these steps to un-install the drivers:

On the search bar type “ Device Manager”
On the left pane locate “Sound, Video and Game Controllers” and expand by clicking on it
Right on the “ Wireless adapter” option and click “Uninstall’
Download the latest driver setup file from the manufacturer’s website and install it.

For more reference:
Why can't I get online?
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/wind ... -connected
Hope this helps. If the issue remains unresolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help.
I tried the first solution using Windows 10 Settings and yes you really HAVE to type "troubleshooting".

Control Panel is where you end up with a few troubleshooting options listed. Click View All at top left.
Image
The Power troubleshooter apparently does not like the screensaver and the time delay I set.

I also checked Network Adapter and Hardware and Devices which apparently updated a driver:
Image
After a reboot, the screen saver no longer was enabled. Will have to wait to test performance...

The Screen Saver settings are located in Personalization - Lock Screen at bottom:
Image

Screen Timeout settings look fine to me! That's how they were set:

Sleep did not wake up again today, forcing me to shut down manually and boot. Another hit on Stability!

So I decided to go back into the Personalize settings and look for Hibernate settings.
I found it in advanced settings and sure enough, it was set to hibernate after 180 minutes:
Image
The laptop had problems waking up from Hibernate in XP so I'll give this a try and hope it fixes it.
The drop down settings has the number of minutes until scrolled down toward 0 as Never.

Notes: Presently my laptop never goes to Sleep unless I press the power button quickly.
After 10 minutes the screen goes dark without the screensaver and awakes with the mouse.
Eliminating the screensaver did not change anything for the better...

New Java bug leads to "complete compromise" of PC, warns Oracle

The article has a link to Verify Java but it cannot use Chrome:
Image
Java verification site Use Internet Explorer instead!

A new version will be installed and then it will want to remove older versions:
Image

Image

Image
Belarc Advisor says I still need:
Q2919355 Critical Microsoft security update (KB2919355)
Microsoft KB2919355 from April 2014
How do I get that update? Checking with M$ Support if they EVER reply...
Windows or Microsoft Update are not to be used with Win 10! Update predates Windows 10...
The page even has a bad link to a direct download! Page says to Login with no place to do that...

Then two windows popped up asking for Firewall clearance:
Image
ALLOW them to keep your PC updated to prevent future exploits!

The 64 bit WX desktop did not run the verification page. IE had blocked Java apparently:
Image

In the See the troubleshooting FAQ link I found an Offline Install package and Ran it:
Image
The installation ran and even removed the same two older versions as the laptop one did.

Belarc Advisor still says I need Java 7 and 8 updates on desktop, laptop Java is fixed...
CpuJan2016-2367955 Critical Oracle Java SE Critical Patch Update for Java 7.0.790.15 64-bit
CpuJan2016-2367955 Critical Oracle Java SE Critical Patch Update for Java 8.0.660.18 64-bit
The above Belarc links take you to a page that warns you, but has absolutely no links to FIX THEM!

Googled them and got a download, but still not the one I need apparently! Oracle is WORSE than M$!

Apparently IE is messing with Java blocking the site pages from working! Where are the Java settings????
