SCAMS on the web! Batterizer, Liquipel, cheap FOB remotes

Post by burger2227 »

"Batteriser is a $2.50 gadget that extends disposable battery life by 800 percent" says the article in a PC World email newsletter...

Image
The device jumpers each battery so it is always connected, using some battery power.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2928997/ ... nl_pcwbest

Problem is the device is a SCAM, pure and simple! The device maker claims that many devices only work when the battery is 1.5 volts to 1.3 volts, effectively doing away with the battery usage rating curve from there to 1 volt.
Image
In the usage chart above 1.3 volts gets the battery down to the third or barely .6 amp hours usage. What happens to the rest of the 2.2 amp hours or 11 vertical bars? The batteriser claims to get that 3/4 back!

That eliminates 3/4 of the usage and the device claims to get that 80% back by keeping the voltage at 1.5 volts.

Also how do you shut off such a battery device when it is constantly connected to each battery even when your devices are turned off?

well, I look at it and see only thin copper foil, connected at both ends. I don't see any "segment" marks indicating any kind of inbeded IC device or pole separation.

now I never claimed to be an authority in EET but. "a battery having ends connected with copper is by any definition (a dead short)" same as a length of wire. "works as a parallel load" and will get warm/hot depending on the amount of current allowed through it's resistance.

which will without doubt lessen the life of a battery though it will prevent spikes and could possibly be useful in some strange cases.

though the battery will drain even if the device it's in is on or off, some small digital circuits like cameras or mp3 players would like being paralleled with a short. I am sure the establishment would prefer you operate everything with a short, to keep you buying more batteries..

the digital devices i refer to use static voltage and not current pressure to do work.
in other words there is no motor or wire (analog device)inside, to drain away current as waste heat. instead they simply use a very small micro current to flip transistor switches.

I am surprised they make/sell them at all, if someone used them where a stacked battery configuration was used for higher voltage, they would at least one of them get hot and melt "like a fuse link",possibly making a fire..

the way digital equipment use a battery leave it having a current capacity but reduced voltage. ("like having a cup of hot water left over" )

this is the opposite with analog devices because current leads voltage meaning the voltage drops as the current capacity is spent. (like having a empty cup left over.)

so what the device or strip is doing is actually warming the battery with waste heat, so it maintains a steady output voltage during drop/use. but I doubt its anything nearly an advantage when looked at battery life..

it would be like leaving the heater blower in your car on while you try to charge the battery..

yet another way the corporation wants to plague dumb-ass's (who will buy), with more products to extort even more income from you.

(alkaline batteries for sale!)

p.s. please don't put these batteries in a charger with that thing still installed. the short will cause any wall wart charger to explode capacitors and maybe even damage the coils enough to cause a fire later.

The ones pictured sure do look just like a copper buss, but I assure you that there is a circuit involved and not just a short. I can't wait for PC World to evaluate them after giving such a glowing revue without even testing them!

For $2.50 each I'd buy one just to get a picture of the circuit. No doubt a voltage doubler to keep the volts up...

I can see them on Ebay selling by the dozens until the roof caves in!

by all means review it, if you find a solid market, I will run a spool of wire through a rolling mill "it's been reverse engineered here".. if you do find a circuit there it would presumably be a camel hump oscilator producing DC 4.5 and regulated to Vss by resistance but it would have to be inbeded IC and there was no trace of that in the pic.
( Batteriser SCAM!=1)
maybe its hidden IDK??

observation is prone..

I will follow the post now, my curiosity needs to know.

Liquipel SCAM!

Post by burger2227 »

First they said that Liquipel keeps phones working underwater. Only $69 plus shipping! :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHW_4WbvFkc

Warranty forces you to go through SIX STEPS after a phone is immersed in water too!

Then Radio Shack, already dying, said Liquipel keeps phone glass from breaking:

Well so far we now know that waterproof it is NOT:

Beware of cheap FOB car remotes

Post by burger2227 »

About nine months ago I needed a replacement remote for my car and new ones cost $80
so I found cheap ones on the web for $25 instead.
I still had to get it reprogrammed too for $25 at a dealer's so it still set me back $50.

I had this spare remote in my car for emergencies and to give to valets or friends.
Recently my car started unlocking the doors while driving and overnight so I took a look:
Image
I was just gonna change the battery, but stuff fell out when I took it apart.
Foil pads were stuck to the circuit side and others just fell out.

I think that it got hot in the car and the foil was connecting sporadically from that.

After trying it without the foil and only getting the Emergency horn button to work
I decided to try gluing them on to the rubber side with my famous clear caulking:
Image
I made the bottom one over again with a hole puncher and aluminum foil.

So far my car has not unlocked while driving or overnight again! Been 2 weeks.

GREAT FIX for worn out remote buttons if it works out!

I've used aluminum foil before to repair faulty TV remotes.

Update on FOB remote fix:

The silicone calking eventually allowed the foil to detach and then the locks activate
any time. The calking only worked for about 6 months and is hard to remove from the
old contacts on the buttons.

I have now tried attaching new aluminum foil with Lazer Bond that hardens with UV light.
I used a binder hole puncher to make smaller foil discs. The smaller size is still bigger than
the original black contacts that wear out over time.

I put a small puddle of it onto the rubber and pressed on the foil. UV light was applied from
the side. The rubber button template us very flexible so pressing the button side in will
raise the glued area for better access to the side to solidify the plastic liquid.

Will let you know how that works out!...The glue failed soon after!

12 LED Motion Sensor Solar Waterproof Wall Light

I purchased one of these lights available for $6 to $15 to use as a door entrance light:
Image
It worked for about 6 months and died! The light came on as soon as it got dark with
brighter lighting when motion was detected. Thus the battery never lasted all night.

The solar light, i admit, first time i saw those things on tv. I said chinese junk but i bet the solar cell there would be perfect for a phone, tablet, anything usb. 5.5v i bet.
I knew it was junk soon as they suggested double stick tape to install it with. So you install it on the ground behind the hedge. But they do make a nice high output solar panel.. everything today is made with the quality of a dispos able razor, except razors their made with even less quality..
I got tickled the other night with the atomic flashlight commercial,
he says "this is a flashlight good enough for retired air force pilots", me thinking that means its good for sitting on a tv table or for use when you walk to the fridge for beer..
But wait, you can run it over with a humvee because its worthy of a us veteran.. yeah we run our kids over with humvee's to make sure their worth keepin to.. lololol....you can toss it from a chopper or blow it up to, i do that with everything i own..hahaha..l
