Cody McCloud in: Rain of Terror

Post by MikeHawk »

It's a Breakout clone with a cloud... 30 levels of ball busting fun! It has a save game feature, SoundBlaster effects, joystick, mouse and keyboard support, particle effects, animated backgrounds (using palette-cycling tricks,) a handful of instruction screens, a high-score table, 3 difficulty settings, 9 power-ups and a special bonus stage. It's not bug-free but it has the merit of using math to handle collisions, instead of pointing the video buffer. It's Mode Y again, because why not essentially.

Just gave this a go tonight. Fantastic job! This is a really fun game to play and a nice twist on the breakout/arkanoid style. I made it to ~40k points before I died on the easier setting. I really dug the power ups (and even the "power downs" like Medusa and shrink")

I also thought it was really cool the SB auto detect worked in the menu.

I haven't had a chance to try yet on my 486 but running in DOSbox it worked great. My only question is, if you set the controls to keyboard, how do you launch the ball at the start of the match? I only had luck with the mouse controls.

All in all. This was a blast to play and I definitely plan on keeping it in my DOSbox C: drive and having a copy for my 486 as well.

Glad you like it and thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

For keyboard controls, right ctrl launches the ball and holding shift increases movement speed. I should probably add a way to customize controls in the menu.
