Pete:

How about ore programmer of the month award, website of the month, bring that stuff back to QBXP!

Also... website of the millenium? You had your time...

I've thought about it, actually... but the problem is that putting together the mag each month already takes too much time as it is, and I'm a bit leery about adding any new sections...it just means more work for me.

If you haven't noticed, I've been left out the Blast From The Past! section several times, as well as the Competition section, because I simply don't have enough time to do one every month and still get the mag out within a reasonable timeline.

Now if somebody else wanted to do a monthly column for Programmer of the Month and Website of the Month, I would gladly do it. But whoever takes it over would have to be reliable (do it every month, without fail), and also a good writer -- and write an informative, interesting paragraph or two about WHY the winner wins.

I'd also want awards to be given out for something special that the person or website does within the last month... so no giving an award to DarkDread for March, 2005 when he hasn't released any new games or even updated his website in the last month. (I use him as an example, since he gets every award ever from every QB publication ever.) Instead, give the site of the month to ASCII-WORLD or Na_th_an's new All Basic Code, and programmer of the month to somebody who releases a cool demo or something.

The person would also have to make a cool award image every month for both winners... so they're at least winning something *tangible*... (even though it could be Photoshopped in five minutes :).

Any volunteers?

He never got one from QBOA...then again, neither did anyone else because awards like this are merely ego-patters which serve very little purpose.

you're probably right. it tends to set the receivers apart from the others and the others tend to get discouraged and unmotivated with time. That I've seen.

OK, guys: I want Ratt to do em, I am not good at gfx. But this month, I will do the site of the Millenium award. Any ideas open, but I think I know...

A crystal trophee? Sounds cool...

If you think you know....then I won't try to influence that. :-)....all we can do is send you URL's to look at....you're the only one that should reach a decision :-). but ot me, the first website that should get the first award, is Pete's QB Website, that's who I nominate, for the quality of it's cotents and design everything is packed into a set of pages that are easy and logical to get at. What else could I ask for? ;-). It's just yelling the energy and determination that Pete put into it to give us what we see every day.

<plug>
Hmm....errr......ahem ahem* There's also the ever humble and new ASCII-World at http://www.ascii-world.com. lol it's new, but hey, it's dedicated and determined ;-).

Allright, allright...hold on guys.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but I think you're taking this whole Awards thing a bit too far.

At the VERY most, I just want to feature a SITE OF THE MONTH and a PROGRAMMER OF THE MONTH.

The purpose of these awards should be to give recognition to people who have made significant contributions to the Qmunity in the last month, NOT to stroke egos.

I don't want to do any of these "of the millennium" awards in this magazine, ESPECIALLY if you guys are going to give them to Pete's QB Site (which is what you seem to be insinuating). I made up that "site of the millennium" award when I was a 13 year old kid, and it was my way of sucking up to Tek and NeoZones because I basically worshipped that site. It was a dumb idea from the start. Anyhow, if anyone's going to give out that particular award again, it's me... and if I had to give it out, I would give it to V Planet! or QBasic News. I definitely would not give it to my own site, and definitely not in my own magazine.

Here's what I had in mind for this section of the magazine:
  • SITE OF THE MONTH
    Site Name - http://www.sitename.com
    Webmaster: Person's Name
One or two paragraph describing why they win (what they've done this month that's so darn special), as well as some a bit of "Qmunity history" behind the site.
(Screen capture of the website accompanies this.)
    (Award image follows it.)

    PROGRAMMER OF THE MONTH
    Programmer: Person's Name
    Site Name - http://www.person'swebsite.com
One or two paragraph describing why they win (what they've done this month that's so darn special), as well as some a bit of information about what they've done in the past in the Qmunity, and what they plan on doing in the near future.
(Screenshot of person't program, or some other image accompanies this.)
    (Award image follows it.)
That's all.

I agree with Pete, I was getting rather sick till I saw his post, thinking on how would I do so many trophies... I'm good, but I dout that good.. speed wise that is, and doing a crystal fx is not as simple as it might sound...

I'll do 2 for the terms set by Pete, but there better b some1 to give 'em to when I'm done..

I think he means he doesn't want nonsense articles in his magizine.. And you stuck without a graphics artist if you expect me to do tons of awards for all these diff things.. :) Or to me seem like alot, I got other things myself..

I think your idea is good the way you have it written up, Pete. :D Just make sure you keep a handle on how far you let it go or else yeah, it will become an egofest.

:) Whats all this crap on ego?? Should not it be based on hard work, not status... Heck (might regret this), we could to 2nd and 3rd places, and like GT3 & GT4, give pictures of a QB keychains to the rest.. no1 gets left out, and every one is encouraged... or something like that, hmm..

Ratt, it's called "experience"...those of us who've been around for awhile know what happens when these awards things get out of hand.

Okay, spare me, I am new to the community... what to ppl do when it gets out of hand, a example like? I'm not a big Ego fan so I'm pretty clueless on how it goes about.
