This interview was done on April 20, 1999. This was originally done in an ICQ chatroom, but it was deleted, so we did it again through email. The original was so much better, but this will have to do. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, MicroTrip! Welcome to Pete's QBASIC Site's First interview! I'm just going to ask you a couple questions about your programs & your site and a few other things here & there. So where did you get your name from? My friend mis-pronounced microchip, and it sounded cool. How did you find out about QBASIC? My friend Jon. When was that? Early summer '98. He needed help. Who told you? Jon Moss How did you discover the QBASIC Community? Through sites that linked to the Top 50 and from there. How did you learn how to program in it? I already new how to program in AmigaBASIC and in the TI calculator language. Where Did you learn AmigaBASIC? I learned AmigaBASIC from looking at other source and from my reference guide. What was the first program you made? In QB it would have to be MicroTrip Lock. The only one that actually got out though was BeatDown Which versions of QBASIC do you use? 4.5 and 1.1 Which one do you use the most? 4.5 definitely! What is the best program you have made? Tuke Tile Editor Why? The only thing that I've made that should even be considered a program. What other programs have you made? BeatDown, MicroTrip Lock, and a whole bunch of beginings and little things. What do you think is the best Qbasic program that someone else has made? I don't know. Off the top of my head I'd have to say Monospace. Why? The engine would have been so incredibly hard to make, and it has alot smooth action. Do you use librarys or utilities or other people's code in your programs? I use some utilities, but not libraries. What? I use n!media and some GIF/BMP loaders. I also used Tek's palette code. Have you ever done a joint coding project? No, not on a QB project. Do you program in other languages than QB? Which ones? Um, yeah. TI, AmigaBASIC, Visual BASIC, a little bit of JavaSCRIPT, HTML, a tad of Arexx, and a whole bunch of AmigaDOS Could you tell me a bit about your site? No, it sucks. How long have you been producing Unknown Origins? Since October 23rd,1998. It was then called MicroTrip's QBASIC What's most important in a QB Site? Regular updates and lots of content. What do you think of my site? Awesome! I go there 2 or 3 times a day. What do you think is the best QBasic site besides yours? Other yours or NeoZones. NZP has alot more ppl going to it, but you update alot more often. Are you currently working on any project(s) in QB? A 3D RPG engine and a whole bunch of 2D Pac-Man style games. And, my fighter. What is it/are they? No names yet, except for the fighter, Rafiki Style. What type of program is it? I wonder?? How much is completed? About 1%, I'm going to totally re-code it anyway. When do you expect it to be released? Undecided, need alot of help on graphics. Are there any demos? Nope, not until I get graphical help =) Anything else about it that you want to say about your project? No Any rants/raves/comments about QB in general? QB is my language of choice!! It is far superior to VB!! Any last words for the two or three people that are actually going to read this? Um, are you crazy? Why'd you read this?? Thanks! Seeya. Later
