Sorry for not sending a mailing list last month.. I kinda forgot about it, then kept on putting it off. In the last two months, daily updates haven't led to much change, but they did leave to some nice new and improved thangs here @ petesqbsite. :) ----------------------------------------------------------- 2.0 - Past Updates (Since October 1st) ----------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------- File Review Format Revamped ---------------------- Way back in July of August when I redesigned the layout of my page, I didn't change the format of the reviews to fit the new layout because I thought it would take too long. A lot of them had strange spacing in the tables, ugly text that didn't fit the rest of the review, and a bad look overall. Anyways, I decided that I was going to reformat these reviews for your viewing pleasure. Now, most of the old reviews have been reformatted, and all the new reviews are being reviewed in the new format! ---------------------- The Cyber Chick Section ---------------------- James Robert Osborne is making a Metroid-like platform game in QB, which shows some of the most promise of all the games being developed in QuickBasic at the present. One day, while visiting WisdomDude's domain (his site), I noticed that Cyber Chick did not have the info, downloads, screenshots, etc. that it should have been getting. I messaged James through ICQ, and asked him if he'd be interested in having me help him with distributing the demos, getting the word out, and starting the hype about Cyber Chick on my site, and he agreed. Now, a couple times a month, we are amazed by demos of this upcoming game! Check out the Cyber Chick section of Pete's QB Site for info on this game and the latest demos! ---------------------- Title Images ---------------------- One day, Bud The Fish sent me a kewl looking title image because the one at the top of the main page was getting old. I liked the image, but decided not to change the image, because his image didn't fit the site's color scheme as well as the other had. A month or so later, Merlin of Master Creating, a graphical expert (as you can see in his games) submitted another title image that looks really good. I realized that now that I have a lot of title images (there are a bunch that I made for my site in it's early days), I can alternate the better ones, and put them all on display in a section of the site. This may sound like a dumb idea, but I've gotten tired of that title image that Viper made me in late 1998, even though it is pretty good. ----------------------------------------------------------- 3.0 - Future Updates ----------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------- Tutorial #5 ---------------------- "Many people have asked me to continue my tutorials, and I finally will be after my site moves. As soon as it moves, I will write tutorial #5. Many people have asked for it, and it's finally coming!" I said that in the last newsletter, back in December. I still haven't gotten around to writing that tutorial. It will come! I promise you! I can't tell you when, though, because it may take a LONG time before I feel like starting it. ---------------------- Links Revamp ---------------------- A links update is really needed. There are more than 300 QB links, and each of the sites is constantly changing. Some have disappeared. Some have moved. Some have drastically changed since I first reviewed them. I've decided to update the links section A LOT. I will review the links, tell about the projects/company/site on the other end, weed out all of the ones that don't work any more, etc. This will also come some day. ---------------------- RPG Developers Unite! ---------------------- A new section of this site has been suggested by Matt Borkowski. He suggested that I add a section to help make people's RPG storylines more spiffy. I pondered the idea, and decided that instead of just making it a story resource, I should make it a whole RPG programmer's resource! It will offer sample source, story ideas, tutorials, graphical ideas, and maybe some articles about how to make an RPG better or something. Expect to see this in some form by the end of the month! ---------------------- File Review Orginization ---------------------- The file reviews need to be listed in a newer, more exciting way or ways. When I have nothing to do for my site (fat chance), or am bored with what I have been doing (good chance), I will start to categorize the reviews and make them easier to sort through and examine. ----------------------------------------------------------- 4.0 - Other Stuff ----------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------- Special Thanks ---------------------- These people get special thanks for contributing to my site above and beyond what normal people do. I wholeheartedly thank you for what youdid. *James Robert Osborne (WisdomDude) -- Submitted half a dozen file reviews, and also posts on my Qboard frequently. *Indigo Fox -- Wrote the Files 2 CGI Script and Email/ICQ Script, and is an all-around cool guy. :) *Josh Reagan -- Gave me the QB Comics section from his former site. This kid is supreme. Also, thanks to: Retna, BattleCraft99, Merlin, Bud The Fish, DizzyGoat, Matt Borkowski, Gavin Cross, Jorden, and Les of UnderWARE labs for submitting reviews of files or other unique, special, cool stuff. :) Thanks a lot!! ---------------------- File Reviews ---------------------- In recent weeks, lots and lots of people have actually done file reviews! This is really cool! If you want to review something, just follow the simple instructions on my site. If you need help on finding a file, just send me an email, and I'll hook you up with some kewl game. :) ---------------------- Files #2 ---------------------- If you have your files uploaded, please add them to Files #2. You will get morepeople to download your files, and it can't hurt you if you do it. If you wantto submit a file for review, be aware that it might take a few days to completeit, because of the huge ammount of files that are on the 'waiting list' before yours. ---------------------- Headlines ---------------------- There has been a lack in interest in the headlines feature of this site ever since it began. If you have info about your projects, want to advertise for your site, want to rant or rave about the QB community, or have some othernewsy-type thing put up on the main page for people to view, just send it in! This is free, and is good publicity for you. ----------------------------------------------------------- 5.0 - Final Message ----------------------------------------------------------- If I had no life whatsoever, my site could be a much better place! But, unfortunately, I do have one. That's why I need your help to make my site kewler. :) Don't forget to submit stuff, and remember to keep coding! Until next time, Pete petesqbsite@hotmail.com ----------------------------------------------------------- Pete's QBASIC Site-------http://petesqbsite.hypermart.net
