A QUICK MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR

You never thought you'd see the day when QBOA returned to the scene. Well, the day you never expected to see has arrived. Yes, QBOA is back again, for a third (and hopefully long) run. They say third time's a charm...they also say three times you're out, so who knows which it will be this time. Anyways, like it or not, QBOA is back again...so any pretenders, beware.

IN THE NEWS - HOW MANY TIMES WILL THIS HAPPEN?

HE QUITS AGAIN?! Sheesh, this reminds me of Ross Perot's presidential campaigns. Matt Zuchowski, better known as DarkDread, has quit once again. You can view his message (and a lot of broken images) at http://darkdreams.rpgdx.net/.

AAP turns 1! The AAP Official Homepage turned a year old September 26th. As tribute to this event, ADIGUN AZIKIWE POLACK, the owner (hence the AAP), gave the site a total overhaul in design. Check it out at http://polacka.xepher.net/.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Since this zine was just restarted, there are no current letters to the editor. So feel free to send one.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

This is something I wanted to do since god-knows-when. There have been many faces in this community that have come and gone. Some we'd like to remember, others we'd rather forget. This little section is a chance to track down these people and see what they're up to these days. So, without further ado, here's this issue's list of WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

--- Danny Gump (Creator of the DashX graphics library)

--- Mallard ("owner" of qbasic.com)

Please send any information you have on these people, we will publish results in the next issue!

GAME REVIEW - A CANDLE IN THE DARK

Considering this was this programmer's first game back in the day, I decided to give it a download and tryout. Unfortunately, it does not work and crashes with a path error when you try to start a new game. So sorry, no review.

GAME REVIEW - THE DARK WOODS 2

A second game from the same author, Jocke The Beast. I opted to download the original ASCII version of this, to test it out-of-the-box instead of trying to make any modifications or anything. I can't even write a proper review of this game. All I can say is...ugh, I am glad it escapes easily. Better luck next time, dude.

GAME REVIEW - THE DARK WOODS 2 - THE GRAPHICAL REMAKE

To be fair to this author, I decided to try a third game in an attempt to find something worthwhile. Is this the extent of games nowadays? Why do the monsters only move when your character moves? I suppose there is a reason for this, but I am failing to see it. The short and skinny: the graphics are nice, the gameplay isn't. Again, better luck next time.

NOTES

Okay, this is somewhat of a short issue, I will admit. I just wanted to give this little note before closing as to a few things. First of all, I wanted to publish some better reviews, but it was difficult to find anything worth reviewing in such short time. I did download a copy of Ghini Run, which I have wanted to review for the longest time, and played with it for a few minutes (it ended up crashing with a file/path access error, and in and of itself wouldn't control right), but I didn't have enough time to write up a proper review for it. In addition, there are no real articles this time. Since I have just now decided to bring this magazine back into existence, the next issue will be much better than this. As I have been somewhat away from the scene, there's a lot to refresh on, and I plan on doing just that over the next week or so. The one thing that has bugged me over the course of the day is the apparent lack of quality software that is being written anymore...seems there's a bit of a shortage of good games out there these days that are current or currently being worked on. However, I'm sure they exist, and I will find them. If you'd like to submit a game, utility, or anything else for an honest and impartial review, please send me an email.

A SITE TO SEE

Piptol Productions
Although not updated since August, Piptol's site has a lot of great things on it, and some awards for excellence. But you probably already know all of that. :P

THE END

Well I'm going to close this one now. The next issue will be better, I promise :) Until then, this is Nekrophidius, signing out :)
