I am busy programming a sprite based game and would like to know just how to create a mask for the sprite. Can someone tell me how to do so? Also, I've figured out how to use poke, varptr, varseg, and def seg. Can someone tell me how to use peek? -William _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Aukerman Date: Sunday, August 09, 1998 9:47 PM QuickBASIC is indeed on the shelf for sale at FRYEs, Woodland Hills, CA and there is little question Microsoft's copyrights are still in effect. I suspect the publication date on the boxes is 10 years old but.if they have inventory in the warehouse that someone will buy why not put it on the shelf while stocking the other stuff. Relative to their other product QuickBASIC can't be worth much, but its no cost - pure profit, One can hardly complain if they ask us to pay for the software. I like gifts as much as anyone but I don't figure Microsoft owes me anything more than technical support. Which incidently they do not offer for this product on sale. Almost all commercial software makers are a little slow delivering that commodity and complaints are justified. While I have loads of reasons to be out of sorts and disappointed in Microsoft I don't know how to justify giving away their software if they don't want it that way. If Microsoft has a real objection to some exchange of QuickBASIC as not in their best interest has anyone concerned with the matter made any argument to soften that position. Is QuickBASIC used for free ware acceptable. Could it be available through education channels or some other non commercial path. Will someone offer QuickBASIC technical support in exchange for Shareware rights. Is there any conspicuous good will MS would gain by being a little more free with an old DOS based program. Most companies are willing to talk if they can see some benefit. While it may clean your spleen to get good and angry at MS it's a damned poor way to gain good treatment. A little less bile and a lot more thought might make some headway. Or would everyone in the top 50 just rather stay mad. R. Aukerman -------------------------------------------------- 3. I would welcome any good, usable ideas, mind that they must be regarding QBasic programming. 134 people on the list now! Wowie! Make sure to tell your friends so we can make it bigger! I'm also looking for some QBasic sites to review for the list. Nothing else to say this week, so, See 'Yall Later! QB: BUG in Crypt v3.1 From: Deniz Özmen Date: Thursday, October 15, 1998 8:07 AM Warning to all folks who have downloaded (e.g. from Future Software) and use my QBASIC encryption program "Crypt v3.1"! I discovered a bug in it when I tried to develop and improve it: if a file is bigger than 1,000,000 bytes, the decryption routine will not work properly and refuse to decrypt the file, which is quite a significant error... I tried to find the bug for weeks, but I couldn't. If anybody would like to help me (anybody who can help me solve my problem will of course be mentioned in the new, graphical Version of this program), please mail to Deniz.Oezmen@T-Online.de Thanks! QB: and Win98 From: Jim Robinson Date: Thursday, October 15, 1998 11:17 AM I have some programs written in QB4.5 and VBDOS 1.0 that have subroutines that act as a telephone dialer. Under Windows 98 QB doesn't seem to be able to open COM1. Anybody have any ideas? Jim Robinson jrobinson@creativemailings.com
